Dumb but obvious question are you killing it legit or using admin to murder it, challenges only count if you kill them with your character. But even if the boss doesn't die, the red book is still there. You just need to keep full blood and break into the book quickly, pressing the E key. Yea you have about 5 seconds before the acid bath eats you. After you study, you can kill the crocodile and get the thick skin for making clothes. #3.
