Coasted into a parking lot and pulled codes truck has code u18a2 loss of comunication with fuel pump driver control module. The truck is a 2018 gmc 2500 l5p. The truck has a crank no start situation. The LP5 is the 1st year that GM is making the motor totally in house vs the previous Izuzu diesel influence. One really positive thing is that the Bosch injection system is gone for 17 and the Denso system is in. For starters, I don't know if anyone has any data showing the HP4 system is any better.Excessive regens! I just picked up a new 2019 GMC 3500 Denali 2 weeks ago. It has the new L5P in it which I love the power and torque. I had a 13 LML and a 15 LML and the 13 I deleted emissions problems solved, the 15 I only had 38,000 on it when I just traded it and I never deleted it. Regen issues, thumping sound from the motor, and a few other smaller things. The fuel pumps don't appear to be an issue on the L5P motors. At least not in the sense the LML trucks were.And now GM is moving to encryption of canbus data in an effort to stop hacking of any onboard modules. However when GM ditched the LML's piezoelectric injectors for the Denso solenoid injectors, they actually made controlling the L5P hardware with an older ECM much easier. No need for swapping or modifying the heads to use old style injectors.

Easy enough, but for anyone doing it, don’t take the shield with the housing. All you need to do are the two 13mm bolts at the back, top/side. I cycle the glow plugs a few times and give it a shot. The truck engages starter and rolls once cuts out for 3 seconds and repeats. Two new batteries, treated fuel, also put a new starter relay in a few days ago to see if was part of the issue.
