The Lyr+ and Bifrost 2/64 are incredibly synergistic here. The Lyr+ takes that tube magic and provides a holographic base for the Bifrost to take and expand. I would suggest the Bifrost, and not for reasons of audio superiority since I don't have experience with the new Multibit model. As mentioned above the upgradeability is a rather nice but the biggest advantage is its power supply. My Modi 2 Uber picks up more audible noise then my gen 1 bifrost ever had.

Jot2 is your best bet if you want balanced to your headphones. I run a Bifrost 2/64 & Lyr+ stack but also a 2/64 & tube amp stack (ZMF Pendant). Consider upgrading to the Midgard or Jot 2 first before buying a Bifrost 2/64. Curious about this because my Bifrost 2/64 is only about a week old. At the beginning, it had a dry sound with a good deal of sibilance. After about 35 or 40 hours that is all gone. Very happy with the sound quality. If the 2/64 continues to get better then it is truly an amazing DAC especially considering the form factor. Already is really.

The 2/64 sounds all right, but the Gumby (esp. the A1) is truly special. But… the SE outputs of the Gungnir do sound worse than the XLR, so you might actually save money and time going Bifrost.
